Day 01: Building something for the sake of documenting

Welcome to all new subscribers. In this newsletter I document my journey of building out a profitable online business as a software engineer. Focused, but not limited to, topics about building a SaaS.

Together (you and MU-AH) are going to be building a SaaS that allows for video deliver via email.

Perfectionist Pete: But how is that different to Bonjoro, SendSpark or Loom?

Well, it aint. At least not in the MVP that I have in mind. You record a video and you send it via email. But we gotta start somewhere by answering the crucial question. Are we able to drive traffic to a product in this domain?

What is the plan for today?

Inspired by Bannerbear’s logic, this week is the marketing week. Th

at means I am dedicated to building landing pages and figuring out all traction channels for the product itself.

In that logic today I want to build out a landing page for the use case SaaS on-boarding. This will require some thinking

  • What integrations will I support?

  • Will there be an API layer?

  • How will video templating work?

Any challenges that might come up?

Well, from a developer perspective - nope. Building a page is easy peasy. Making sure I do not over-promise on something that I will struggle to deliver later might be a tough one to figure out. Especially with the mentioned question points above.

Final thoughts

Tomorrow, we continue on this marketing week and boi! am I out of my comfort zone here. Doing marketing as a Software Engineer who is just used to writing code is a very new experience.
